Northern Arizona Attractions Open During Gov Shutdown


ATTRACTIONS THAT ARE OPEN

UPDATE 10/9/2013 via the Arizona Daily Sun
  • All National Forest Service Campgrounds (even if run privately) are closed.
  • Many trailheads are closed (primarily in the Sedona area - Schultz Tank Trailhead is the only one around Flagstaff).
  • Many Day Use areas are closed with one quite notable exception - Kendrick Park Wildlife Viewing Area.
  • You may STILL disperse camp in the National Forest.
  • NO ROADS in the National Forest have been closed.

Flagstaff City Attractions:
•    Museum of Northern Arizona - Daily 9AM to 5PM
•    Pioneer Museum – Mon.-Sat. 9AM to 5PM
•    Coconino Center for the Arts – Tues.-Sat. 11AM to 5PM
•    Riordan Mansion State Historic Park – Thurs.-Mon. 10:30AM to 5PM
•    Lowell Observatory – Daily 9AM to 5PM, Nighttime 5PM to 9:30PM M, W, F, Sat.
•    The Arboretum at Flagstaff – Thurs.-Sun. 9AM to 5PM
•    Northern Arizona University Art Museum – Tues.-Sat 12PM to 5PM
•    Elden Pueblo Ruins – Daily during daylight hours
•    Flagstaff Aquaplex – Mon.-Fri. 8AM to 10PM, Sat. 6AM to 9PM, Sun. 10AM to 6PM
•    Downtown Flagstaff – Daily, most shops and restaurants open at 10AM
•    Continental Country Club Elden Hills Golf Course
•    Hitchin’ Post Stables – Horseback riding 8AM to Dusk
•    Mormon Lake Stables – Horseback riding 8AM to Dusk
•    Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course – For reservations call 928-351-7310

Flagstaff Area Attractions:
•    Arizona Snowbowl – Daily for hiking.  Fri, Sat & Sun. Scenic Chairlift Rides 10AM to 4PM
•    All forest area hiking trails are open
•    Seasonally open National Forest Service campgrounds are open

Williams Area Attractions:
•    Bearizona Wildlife Park – 8AM to 5PM (last car admitted at 4:30PM)
•    Grand Canyon Deer Farm – 9AM to 6PM, after Oct. 14th 10AM to 5PM
•    Downtown Williams – Daily, most shops and restaurants open at 10AM
•    Big Toy Playground – For reservations contact 855-624-4869
•    Elephant Rocks Golf Course
•    Mountain Ranch Stables – Horseback riding 8AM to Dusk
•    Route 66 Zipline – 10AM to Dusk

Williams Area Attractions:

•    All forest area hiking trails are open
•    Seasonally open National Forest Service campgrounds are open

Northwest of Flagstaff Area:

•    Planes of Fame Museum (Valle, AZ) – Daily 9AM to 5PM
•    Flintstones Bedrock City (Valle, AZ) – Daily 9AM to Dusk
•    Grand Canyon IMAX (Tusayan, AZ) – Daily 8:30AM to 8:30PM
•    All Helicopter & Fixed Winged Aircraft Tours over the Grand Canyon (Tusayan, AZ)

Northeast of Flagstaff:
•    Little Colorado River Gorge (Cameron, AZ) – Daylight Hours
•    Historic Cameron Trading Post (Cameron, AZ)
•    Hopi Cultural Center (Second Mesa, AZ) – Daily, call 928-734-2401 for times

East of Flagstaff:
•    Meteor Crater – Daily 9AM to 5PM
•    Homolovi Ruins State Park (Williams, AZ) – Daily 8AM to 5PM
•    Little Painted Desert County Park (Williams, AZ) – Daily during daylight hours
•    Twin Arrows Casino

Sedona / Oak Creek Canyon Area:
•    Oak Creek Canyon – Campgrounds, hiking trails and picnic areas are open
•    Uptown Sedona, Talaquepaque and Hillside Galleries – Most shops open at 9AM or 10AM
•    All trails are open in the Sedona area
•    Slide Rock State Park – Daily 8AM to 6PM
•    Red Rock State Park – Daily 8AM to 5PM
•    All Jeep tours, helicopter & fixed-winged aircraft tours, hiking tours, horseback riding tours and balloon excursions are operating
•    Sedona Heritage Museum – Daily 11AM to 3PM
•    Numerous Wineries
•    Oak Creek Country Club Golf Resort

Verde Valley Area:
•    Verde Canyon Scenic Railway (Clarkdale, AZ)
•    Out of Africa Wildlife Park (Camp Verde, AZ) – Daily 9:30AM to 5PM
•    Fort Verde State Park (Camp Verde, AZ) – Thurs.-Mon. 9AM to 5PM
•    Dead Horse Ranch State Park (Cottonwood, AZ) – Daily during daylight hours
•    Numerous wineries
•    Historic downtown Cottonwood – Most shops open at 10AM
•    Verde Santa Fe Golf Course
•    Cliff Castle Casino
•    All tours are operating
•    Blazin’ M Ranch – Wed.-Sat. 5PM to 8:30PM

Jerome Attractions:
•    Jerome State Historic Park – Daily, 8:30AM to 5PM
•    Jerome Historical Mine Museum – Daily 10AM to 5PM
•    Gold King Mine & Ghost Town – Daily 10AM to 5PM
•    Historic Jerome Ghost Town – Most stores open at 10AM
